Choosing a rug
There are around 300 rugs here, and most come in several sizes, so size is the first thing to settle. Measure the space with a tape, then mark the corners on the floor with masking tape. It shows how the rug will sit against the sofa, the bed and the door far better than a photo can.
Standard rug sizes
- 60 x 240cm to 80 x 300cm: a runner for a hall, landing or galley kitchen.
- 80 x 150cm: beside a bed or in front of a fireplace.
- 120 x 170cm: in front of a two-seater sofa, or a small bedroom.
- 160 x 230cm: the most common size here. It sits in front of a three-seater sofa or under a double bed.
- 200 x 290cm to 200 x 300cm: a sofa and armchairs together, or under a king size bed.
- 240 x 340cm and 300 x 400cm: large and open-plan living rooms, or under a dining table and chairs.
Most 160 x 230cm rugs here cost between €99 and €179, and most 200 x 290cm rugs between €139 and €309. If you're torn between two sizes, the larger one usually looks better. Leave about 30cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls.
Pile and material
Most rugs here are polyester or polypropylene with a short, low pile. A low pile is easy to vacuum, and a door can usually swing over it. Shaggy rugs have a deep, soft pile that suits bedrooms and quiet living rooms. Jute and sisal rugs have a natural, rougher weave.
Washable and non-slip rugs
About a third of the range is washable. Where a listing gives washing instructions, it is a gentle cold or 30 degree cycle, and the care notes say whether it can be tumble dried. Large sizes get heavy when wet, so check the weight on the listing against your machine. Most rugs here have a non-slip or anti-slip backing, which stops them creeping on wooden and tiled floors.
Styles
Styles run from plain and modern geometric designs to vintage and traditional patterns, floral and boho rugs, and a few round and outdoor rugs. Colour names on the listings can vary from screen to screen, so the photos of the rug in a room are the most reliable guide.
When it arrives
Rugs are delivered rolled or folded, and creases can take a few days to drop out. Lay the rug flat, and turn it upside down for a day if a corner keeps curling.
Delivery and returns
Delivery is free to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and orders arrive in 3.1 working days on average. You can return an unused item in its original packaging within 30 days of delivery, and our support team answers email 7 days a week. The details are on our delivery and returns page.

Questions about rugs
What size rug do I need for a living room?
With a three-seater sofa, a 160 x 230cm rug sits in front of it, and a 200 x 290cm rug takes the front legs of the sofa and chairs. Large or open-plan rooms suit 240 x 340cm and up. Leave about 30cm of bare floor to the walls.
Are the rugs washable?
About a third of them are, and they are grouped on our washable rugs page. The care notes on each listing give the cycle and temperature.
Do the rugs have a non-slip backing?
Most do. The listing details say whether a rug has a non-slip or anti-slip backing.
Will the rug arrive creased?
Rugs are delivered rolled or folded, so creases are normal at first. Laid flat, they usually settle within a few days.
Is delivery free on rugs?
Yes. Delivery is free to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and most orders arrive in 3 to 7 days.
Can I return a rug?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it is unused and in its original packaging. Email us first and we will send the return address. Damaged or faulty items are replaced or refunded at no cost to you.
