Single beds: 3ft, 90 x 190cm

A single bed takes a 90 x 190cm mattress. It's the usual size for a child's room, a teenager's room, a box room or a guest room. This page has around 60 single bed frames. Single frames start at €99, and most cost between €99 and €209.

Will it fit the room

The frame is a little bigger than the mattress, more with a headboard. Pushed against a wall, a single needs about 60cm of clear floor along the open side to get in and out. In a box room, that usually leaves space for a bedside table or a small chest of drawers. Check the overall size on the listing, including the headboard, before you order.

Small single and European sizes

A small single, 2ft6, is 75 x 190cm and suits a narrow room or a young child. Some frames are European singles at 90 x 200cm, which take a longer mattress. The size option on each listing says which it is, so match the mattress to it.

Styles

Metal frames are the most common here, many with a headboard and footboard and a slatted platform. There are also wooden frames, upholstered frames with a padded headboard, and frames with drawers or a storage headboard. Storage frames suit kids' rooms, where toys and spare bedding need a home.

Under-bed space

Many metal platform frames leave a clear gap under the bed, usually 27cm to 36cm where the listing gives it. That fits flat storage boxes or a pull-out drawer. A higher frame also makes the bed easier to make and to sit on.

Mattress depth and the headboard

A deep mattress, 25cm or more, sits higher on the frame and covers more of the headboard. If you like a headboard that shows above the pillows, check its height on the listing against the depth of your mattress.

Assembly

Single frames arrive flat packed. Most include the tools and instructions, and a single is a manageable build for one person. Check the parts before you start, as flat-pack items can only come back unassembled.
