A small double bed takes a 120 x 190cm mattress. It's 30cm wider than a single and 15cm narrower than a double. That makes it a good fit for one adult who wants more room, a teenager, a guest room, or a bedroom too tight for a full double. This page has around 20 frames that come in this size. Metal platform frames
Every frame here is a metal platform bed. Steel slats hold the mattress directly, so no box spring is needed. Styles range from plain frames with rounded corners and legs to frames with a headboard and footboard, including a Victorian style, and frames with built-in storage. Many list noise-free joints.
Height and storage
Several are high frames that leave a clear gap under the bed, about 30cm where the listing gives it. That's enough for flat storage boxes or suitcases. A taller frame also makes the bed easier to sit on and to make.
Measure the mattress, not just the frame
Small double sizes vary more than any other. Most frames here take 120 x 190cm, but some European frames are 120 x 200cm, and the size option says which. Check your mattress before ordering a frame, or buy the two together. A small double mattress won't fit a double frame properly.
Room size
With 60cm of floor on each side, a small double needs a room about 2.4 metres wide. Against a wall, it fits a narrower room, which is why it's a common choice for the second bedroom.
Mattress depth and the headboard
A deep mattress, 25cm or more, sits higher on the frame and covers more of the headboard. If you like a headboard that shows above the pillows, check its height on the listing against the depth of your mattress.
