What counts as an extra large rug
On this page, extra large means at least one size option 240cm wide or more. That includes 240 x 300cm, 240 x 330cm, 240 x 340cm, 270 x 360cm, 275 x 370cm and 300 x 400cm, among others. Rugs this size are for big living rooms, open plan spaces, large dining tables and main bedrooms with a king or super king bed.
Which extra large size
- 240 x 300cm to 240 x 340cm suits a large living room with a three seater sofa and two chairs, or a dining table for six to eight.
- 270 x 360cm to 280 x 380cm fits big seating areas with two sofas.

Measure the room, not the furniture
Leave 30cm to 60cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls. Take that off the room size on every side and you have the largest rug that will look right. Tape the outline on the floor first and walk around it.
Living with a big rug
Large rugs are heavy, so plan on two people to lay one. A non-slip backing or a rug pad stops it rippling on hard floors.
