Choosing a mixer shower

Most showers here are mixer showers. They blend hot and cold water from your existing supply, so they need a hot water system such as a cylinder or a combi boiler. If your home has no stored hot water, an electric shower heats the water itself.

Bar mixer showers

A bar mixer shower is a horizontal valve fixed to the wall, with the temperature control at one end and the flow at the other. Pipes run to it from below or behind, which makes it a popular replacement for an old shower valve.

Thermostatic or manual

A thermostatic valve holds the temperature steady when someone runs a tap or flushes a toilet elsewhere in the house. Many also have a safety stop that limits the heat. A manual valve is simpler and adjusts the mix by hand.

Shower sets with a riser rail

A shower set pairs a valve with a riser rail. Many have an overhead rainfall head as well as a handheld head on an adjustable rail, so you can switch between them. Measure the height of your ceiling and the space above the bath before you order a tall set.

Bath shower mixer taps

If you shower over the bath, a bath shower mixer tap fills the bath and switches to a handheld shower. They come in deck mounted and wall mounted styles.
