Chunky and solid large 2 cube storage shelf

In an attractive dark coffee colour, this is a chunky self-assembly shelving unit to fit two storage cubes (slightly larger than average - 30cm cubes would have room at the edges. Assembly is straightforward and the furniture is strong once fastened together. The unit comes with an anti-tip kit (for which you need to use a drill) but I did not need to use this so all the tools I required were provided. The unit works well in either orientation, although the middle shelf is attached only with dowels not screws, so it is probably rather stronger if positioned with the longer side horizontal.

Nice but not quite to Kallax standards

The finish of this unit is a little less "clean" than a Kallax. With Kallax, the top and bottom sections sit on the sides, so you get a completely flat top and bottom. With this unit the top and bottom sit between the sides, so the top and bottom aren't then completely flat. Hopefully you can see what I mean in my second image!

Simple but functional

The first thing I have to praise about this is the simplicity of assembly. Its SO easy. It took me about 40 minutes beginning to end and required very little work. Just push in a bunch of dowels and screw in 8 long screws into pre-drilled holes. That's it. Anyone could do it. It comes with all the hardware you need and includes screws and brackets for affirming it to the wall. The finished product is a simple but effective design. A great space saver that fits easily in any room and can be used horizontally or vertically. I think the advised 50 lb weight limit is about right. Its pretty sturdy

Pretty good quality but flimsier than the brand it is trying to emulate...

That said, it is quite obviously not as sturdy/robust as the brand it is based on - even the thick panels are very lightweight, and I think this is down to the fabrication of the chipboard - it's not as dense as the Swedish originals, by a long way. It still feels fairly solid, for sure, but I will definitely be using the included wall-fixings to ensure it doesn't tip over/collapse at any point, and I won't be loading it with anything hugely heavy, just in case.
