We flipped the hands to make it easier to read...
We needed a large centerpiece for a fireplace mantel redesign. This clock was perfect. We've had it for over a week now and love it! It's heavy and appears well-made ... and it's certainly dramatic; though there were a few snags when we first received it. First, the moving gears (which have nothing to do with the actual clock mechanism, btw) would "stick" when running. They're all linked together and driven by the tiny gear at the bottom--which is powered by a single motor on the back. We had to adjust the spacing of the gears on their axes by sliding them slightly forward or back so they woul

Again, as other have stated the clock after a period of time can develop a slight whirring sound, which doesn’t bother me because of its location but I can get it may be irritating for some especially with low background noise in the room. The instructions do state that the clock requires maintenance and the main cog which turns the other dials should be greased from time to time (if noise occurs). They are continuously moving parts and like any moving parts, it will need maintenance from time to time.

So... yes, unfortunately, the spur gears are not linked at all with the needles of the clock, which would have been a top. I hope the batteries will last long, otherwise, I might invest in rechargeable batteries.

Looks great, keeps good time, easy to hang. Sadly makes a whining noise from the gears. Really annoying. Took batteries out.
