A home for the turntable and the records
A record player needs a flat, steady surface at a comfortable height, and records are best stored standing upright. A stand does both. The turntable goes on top, and the shelves or slots below hold LPs on their edge so the sleeves don't bend under a pile. Most designs also leave room for a pair of bookshelf speakers or an amplifier.
How many records
Capacity on these stands runs from around 30 albums on a small display stand to 500 or more in a cabinet with a deep drawer. Listings give a figure for standard sleeves. Gatefold sleeves and box sets take more space, so allow for that if your collection has plenty of them. Removable dividers make it easier to sort by artist or genre.
Height and size
End-table stands are about 60cm to 80cm tall, which puts the deck within reach of a sofa. Tall stands go up to about 180cm, so you can change a record without bending. Check the top surface against your turntable's footprint, including the lid when it is open. Widths run from a compact 35cm up to around 115cm for long, sideboard-style units.
Vibration
A turntable can pick up vibration from footsteps or speakers. A solid frame helps, and so do adjustable feet on an uneven floor. Keep the speakers on a separate shelf from the deck if you can.
Styles
You'll find rustic wood with black metal, mid-century legs, white, oak and walnut finishes, clear acrylic, and cabinets with a rattan door. Some double as a plant stand or a side table beside the sofa.
For more room for books and media, see our bookcases, or our TV stands and units if the deck shares space with the TV. Delivery is free to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and most orders arrive in 3 to 7 days. You can return an item within 30 days.
