Memory foam softens with body heat and moulds to your shape, so your weight is spread out instead of pressing on your hips and shoulders. It also soaks up movement, which helps if you share a bed with someone who tosses and turns.
This range includes all-foam mattresses and hybrids that put a memory foam layer on top of pocket springs. Two numbers on each listing tell you most of it: the total depth (most are 15cm to 30cm) and the thickness of the memory foam layer. A thin 3cm or 4cm top layer feels firmer. More foam means you sink in further. Many use gel foam, which is designed to sleep a little cooler than standard memory foam.
Sizes run from small single (2ft6) to king (5ft), with a few super kings. They arrive rolled in a box and need 24 to 72 hours to expand.
