What sets a gaming chair apart
A gaming chair is a desk chair with a racing seat shape: a tall back with a headrest, raised side bolsters, and usually a removable lumbar cushion and head pillow. Most recline further than a standard office chair, and some go close to flat, so you can lean back between games or while watching something.
Footrests
Some chairs have a padded footrest that slides out from under the seat. With the back reclined, the chair becomes a lounger. When you sit up to work at the desk, the footrest tucks away again.
Adjustments to check
- Seat height, set by a gas lift. A Class 4 gas lift is the heavier duty type.
- Armrests, which can be fixed, linked to the backrest, or 3D armrests that move up, down and sideways.
- Recline and tilt, with a lock to hold the back at the angle you like.
- Maximum user weight, listed on each chair. Choose a heavy duty chair if you need a higher rating.
Materials
Faux leather wipes clean easily but can feel warm in a heated room. Fabric breathes better and feels softer. Look at the seat depth too. A deeper seat suits taller people and anyone who likes to sit cross-legged.
Fitting it to your desk
Before you order, check the armrest height against the underside of your desk. With the seat at the right height, your elbows should rest at about desk level and your feet should reach the floor or a footrest. If the armrests are too high to slide under the desk, choose a chair with armrests that drop or fold out of the way.
For a desk to match, see our L-shaped desks and standing desks. More seating is in office chairs. Delivery is free to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and most orders arrive in 3 to 7 days.
Questions about gaming chairs
Do gaming chairs have a footrest?
Some do. Chairs with a footrest say so in the title, and the footrest slides out from under the seat.
How far do gaming chairs recline?
It varies by chair. Many recline to around 135 degrees and some go close to flat. The recline range is in each listing.
What weight can a gaming chair take?
