Choosing a desk
Start with the space you have and what goes on the desk. This page has around 140 desks: computer desks, gaming desks, L-shaped and corner desks, desks with drawers, and small desks and folding desks. Prices start at €99, and most cost between €119 and €269.
Width
- 80cm: a laptop, or a small room or alcove.
- 100cm: one monitor with room for a notebook.
- 120cm: one large monitor, or two 24 inch monitors side by side.
- 140cm to 160cm: two monitors with space for speakers or a lamp.
Two 24 inch monitors need about 110cm of width between them, so 120cm is the minimum for a dual-screen setup.
Depth
Desks here run from about 40cm deep for the most compact models to 80cm for large gaming desks. A depth of 50cm suits a laptop. For a monitor, 60cm or more lets you sit at a comfortable distance from the screen and still have room for a keyboard.
L-shaped and corner desks
About a third of the desks here are L-shaped or corner desks. They make use of a corner that would otherwise be wasted, and give you one side for the computer and one for writing or a second screen. Many are reversible, so the return can go on the left or the right. Measure both walls from the corner before you order.
Drawers, shelves and power
Desks with drawers keep paperwork off the top. Many have a monitor shelf, a side shelf or a headphone hook. About a fifth have a built-in power strip with sockets and USB ports, which saves trailing an extension lead across the floor. Gaming desks often add LED lighting and a textured top.
Materials and assembly
Most desks here have an engineered wood top, such as particle board or MDF with a wood-effect or plain finish, on a steel frame. They arrive flat packed, and many include the tools. Allow time and space for the build, and use the wall anchors if the desk has a tall hutch or shelves.
Height
Standard desks are about 72cm to 76cm high. If you want to stand for part of the day, see our standing desks, which go up to around 120cm, or a standing desk converter that sits on the desk you already have. For children, see kids desks and tables.
