The foot rest stays in place at its lowest position which is OK for me - the fitting to make go it higher is not adequate enough if you wanted to have this securely in place for an adult - the foot rest just goes back down to the bottom when in use -it might be OK if you wanted it for children to rest their feet on as they would not press down so hard.

this stool has been a life saver for me. I suffer with Gout and when i am having a painful attack I am unable to walk, enter this stool, it gets me around my flat with ease, I am a heavy person and i feel so safe on this stool, even at its lowest setting I find it is high enough for me to sit comfortably at my kitchen counters
